I have to admint that SC Sen. Lindsey Graham often drives me absolutly crazy, especially his recent embrace of John Kerry and his rediculous Cap and Tax proposal. Additionally, Graham has been hiding behind some questionable libral funded front groups posing as local conservitives. More on that here.

On the other hand, this video of the Senator putting the wood to Attorney General Eric Holder makes up for a little of that.

Graham makes some excellent points while making Holder look like a bumbling fool. If we captured Bin Ladin tomorrow we would no doubt have to read him his right and provide him with an attorney. The absurdity of this beyond my limited ability to comprehend.

Sen. Graham is a smart fellow. If he would spend more time using his smarts to promote the conservative principles of the people of South Carolina who elected him, and less trying to curry favore with the likes of John Kerry and the liberal elite in DC we would all be the better for it.

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be transported to New York City early next year to face charges in federal court. This to be announced today by Attorney General Eric Holder. Mohammed, of course, is the individual credited with masterminding the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington DC on September 11 2001 which killed some 3,000 American citizens.

Well, bon voyage, monsieur Mohammed. New York is a crackin’ little burb, you should have a grand time there. Maybe you can do the town, maybe catch a show, I hear Naked Boys Singing is getting rave reviews. Perhaps some Spicy Chicken Wings from one of Manhattans’ many fine Afghan eateries. Take in the view from atop the Empire State building, maybe a carriage ride though the park.

Balls! This is a travesty. KSM should be brought to New York for one reason only. To be drawn and quartered at ground zero. The Idea that these “people” should be given the protections of the United States judicial system makes absolutely no sense on any level. Our system of justice was put in place to protect the citizens accused of crimes from abuse by their government. Mohammed and his compatriots are not guilty of criminal acts, but acts of asymmetrical WARFARE against the people of the United States and our homeland and as such have no rights to access our courts. This is an insult to the memory of the innocent victims who died as result of the actions plotted by these animals. A military tribunal followed by just and swift execution is all we owe these prisoners.

So now what? What is going to happen when the lawyers for these ‘alleged criminals’ begin making their motions? Are the courts going to have to throughout confessions made after the accused was subjected to water boarding? What happens if they are acquitted? Will Obama just let them go? Will these trials be used a propaganda by our enemies? Who will defend them, the ACLU?

I guess the Muslims are just going to start liking us once we show them what decent fair minded people we are. Yeah right. They will never like us, in fact they will like us less if we actually go through with this. We should worry less about what the Arab street thinks about us, and more about showing the bastards what happens when you pick a fight with the USA. Your 72 virgins await.

Seriously people, trying to follow the Administration's Afghanistan strategy is giving me motion sickness. Hello, the job title is *Commander* in Cheif, not Ditherer in Chief. One day we hear that Obama is poised to send the additional troops requested by Gen. Stanley McChrystal, then the next we are told that there is yet another meeting of the National Security Council. This morning, word has it that Obama is not happy with any of the options that he was given in his last meeting with his advisers.

I know that BHO doesn't want to be perceived as reckless, lest he be compared to those vile war criminal, Bush 43 and his puppet master, Darth Cheney. But come on! Our soldiers are in peril, and the enemy is emboldeded. And don't forget, a Nuclear Pakistan lies just across the mountains. Should the Taliban regain control of Afghanistan, and invite al Queada back in for tea you can bet your doo-rag they will set their sites across the border.

I fear that what Obama has in mind is nothing more than an exit strategy. The concept of victory makes him uncomfortable. Y'all remember victory don't you? You know...they loose, we win? A foreign concept in Obama's Amerika.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for today shows that forty percent (40%) of the nations voters strongly disapprove of how Barack Obama is performing his job as president while only thirty percent (30%) strongly approve. This yields an approval index of -10.

Not good numbers for a man who entered office just 10 months ago promising a new era of hope and change. Indeed the trend for the presidents approval numbers has been on a steady decline since he took the oath of office back in January.

So what gives? Why are Americans turning on the One? Perhaps they are beginning to realize that for all his lofty rhetoric, in actuality, he despises America.

This in the wake of House Democrats passing Nancy Pelosi's socialized health care bill on a rare Saturday night floor vote. The American people oppose key provisions of this bill by an overwhelming majority, yet our far left leadership seems intent on ramming this mess down our throats. The democrats are setting themselves up for epic fail if Obama actually signs this catastrophe into law, yet they seem content to whistle past this graveyard and hope that voters will forget come next November. We shall see.

Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Many on the left have tried to minimize the impact that Ronald Reagan had in bringing this about. They credit Mikhail Gorbachev for being an enlightened agent of change and openness within the Soviet empire. Gorbachev did bring the wall down, but it was the strength of the west lead by Reagan and the United States that applied the pressure and refused to back down. In the end Gorbie had no choice. His empire was crumbling fromn within and the peoples who had for decades been enslaved under the boot heel of communist totalitarianism were crying out for freedom.

I remember Reagan's speach at the Brandenburg Gate. I remember also how the left in this country recoiled in disgust at the provocation that it reperensted. Yet just over 2 years later, the wall indeed came down.

To this day, the left in this country refuses to acknowlege the importance of Reagan's challenge. Indeed they don't see the fact that the wall came down as anything worth celebrating. Presedent Obama himself chose not to join other heads of state in celebrating this remarkable event. I doubt he will do anything to publicly acknowlege the importance of this day. Perhaps he just doen't like sharing the lime light.

Even Intrernet search engine Google, famous for customizing it's banner page for special occations, neglected to celebrate the day chosing instead to commemorate the Seasme street vampire character, the Count. Astounding.

Health Care? The Government Can't Even Run a Railroad

Nowhere in the debate regarding health care has anyone asked if the government is able and qualified to run such a system. Before we ask the government to manage universal health care, let's check them out.
How successful has the federal government been in managing agencies, programs and businesses?
Let's look at Medicare. The president and Congress propose to extend Medicare to cover the 47 million people who lack health care coverage. Did anyone remind Congress that Medicare is broke? It's rampant with fraud and abuse. It is estimated that Medicare and Medicaid fraud cost taxpayers $60 billion per year.
Medicare is required by law to pay full retail prices for drugs that could be obtained for far less in a competitive-bidding system.
Health insurance companies are required by state regulators to maintain a reserve for future liabilities. Every working stiff in this country is required to pay premium taxes into Medicare, which has no reserve. The federal government has been running the largest Ponzi scheme ever created, and it is on the hook for $36 trillion in unfunded liabilities. And you, Mr. President, want the federal government to run health care?

On Aug. 4, 1977, Jimmy Carter declared war on energy dependence and created the U.S. Department of Energy. Every president since has done the same. Today, 31 years later, the Department of Energy's budget is $26 billion. It employs 16,000 people and 100,000 contract employees. We are no closer to energy independence than we were in 1977. And you want the federal government to run health care?
The U.S. Postal Service lost $7 billion last year and is talking about closing hundreds of offices. And you want the federal government to run health care?
The Federal Reserve was created by the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 to maintain a stable financial system. The Federal Reserve gets failing marks for its direct complicity in the economic meltdown and subsequent recession. The Federal Reserve has failed us. And you want the federal government to run health care?
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were created by Congress as government-sponsored enterprises to provide low-interest funding for the mortgage industry. These government-run mortgage banks were created to provide competition and cheap loans to those who could not afford normal market rates.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own more than $5 trillion in mortgage paper. On Sept. 7, 2008, they were declared insolvent and were taken over by the Federal Housing Finance Agency and bailed out with more than $400 billion -- another government-run mess. And you, Mr. President, want the federal government to run health care?
Amtrak was created by an act of Congress in October 1970 to run the nation's railroad system. Amtrak was supposed to reverse over two decades of continuous operating deficits. With a congressional mandate to become profitable, it was given $40 million in initial funding, along with $100 million in loan guarantees. After 38 years, Amtrak has never made a profit and receives a federal subsidy, with no prospect in sight of breaking even. And you want the federal government to run health care?
The war on drugs was started by President Richard Nixon in 1969. The United States has been spending $69 billion a year worldwide for the past 40 years, for a total of $2.5 trillion, on drug prohibition -- with little to show for it. Today, there are more drugs on our streets at cheaper prices than ever before. It is easier for young people to obtain illegal drugs than a six-pack of beer. Why? Because sellers of illegal drugs don't ask kids for IDs. And you want the federal government to run health care?
The list of government failures is long and telling. I can't wait for "Government Motors'" new car. Are you waiting anxiously? Are you holding your breath? That car will be on recall for many years. And you, Mr. President, want the federal government to run health care?
The government has failed for 30 years to achieve energy independence. The government has bankrupted the Medicare program. The Postal Service is broke. The Federal Reserve was the primary cause of this economic meltdown and recession. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been taken over and bailed out. We have lost the war on drugs.
Mr. President, our government can't even run a railroad. How the hell do you think the government will ever manage a universal health care system?

So I've been thinking. Yes, I know, a scary proposition. Something I'm not well practiced at. But I've begun to wonder about the Obama administration. I am coming to believe that we are about to witness a failure of epic proportions here. There is no one thing that I can point to that will prove my suspicions, but there are some things which indicate that all is not right.

The most telling thing is how Obama has undertaken so many initiatives at once. Health care reform, cap and trade, fiscal reform, intelligence, and all of these are in trouble. On top of that, the President has filled fewer than half of his appointments. These are positions which are vital to drive his ambitious agenda.

Reports are beginning to leak out about the lack of orderly management from the oval office. I doubt we will hear much about this from statist media, but sooner or later the truth will become clear. Obama and his cadre of leftist amateurs are in way over their heads. Let’s just hope that our enemies abroad don’t get wise to this anytime soon. I shudder to think of how this administration would handle a 9/11 style attack on this nation. I have serious doubts as to their competence to handle a crisis of this magnitude.

Some of my liberal friends have been making sport of Sarah Palin and her extended family. The half sister of the Governor's husband was arrested on burglary charges. Add to that the indignity of her daughter's former boy friend appearing on the Tyra Banks show dishing dirt on the first family of Alaska, and we have quite the kerfuffle.

My friends say that these events provide a contrast to the decency and intellect of our current Commander in Chief. A dramatic foil if you will. Palin = trailer park trash, Obama = towering intellect and refinement.

I have another contrast for you.

Barack Obama, our president, went on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and compared his bowling abilities to those of Special Olympians.

Ha, ha, ha, I bowl like a retard. Very funny Mr. President.

Sarah Palin has a son, Trig, born with Down syndrome. She is excited by the opportunities that the Special Olympics will provide him as he grows up.

President Obama, in an unguarded moment, cracks wise about those with special needs. On national television no less. By contrast Governor Palin embraces the possibilities that that the future holds for her special child. To me, Barack Obama seems arrogant and shallow, Sarah Palin loving and supportive. Quite a contrast, no?

Apparently Tom Daschle, President Obama's designate for Secretary of Health and Human Services has problems understanding the US tax code. Seems he recently realized that he owed some $140K in back taxes for a car and driver that he should have claimed as income. Ditto Timothy Geithner, our new Treasury Secretary. He owed something like $34K in unpaid FICA taxes which he promptly repaid upon being nominated by President Obama.

Now I’ll admit, our tax laws are complicated and confusing. Many of us hire accountants and pay them dearly to insure that we follow the laws and pay our taxes accordingly. Surely messieurs Daschle and Geithner have the resources to retain qualified accountants to handle these matters for them. Their excuses for failing to pay what they owe are sorely lacking for explanation. They simply say, ‘it was a mistake, I deeply regret it, I’ll never do it again, you can trust me, blah, blah, blah…’ How can we trust these people? What message does this send from our new administration? What would be the response if these were McCain’s appointees?

This all really makes me quite ill. Obama promised ‘Hope and Change’. I see none of either in his brief time in office, just more politics as usual, and more liberal hypocrisy.

Update:
Daschle has withdrawn. Good for him, and good ridance. Perhaps Mr. Obama should do as he did in the Bill Richardson case and pick a republican to replace the unfit Daschle. Less chance of an ethics problem that way.

BHO says that he is ready to experiment with the economy in order to get people working again. He wants his administration to project a sense of confidence and willingness to try new things. I guess on some levels this should be lauded. After all we are fighting a fire of sorts with our current economic situation. One must be aggressive when fighting a fire.

One must also understand the nature of the fire he fights. When the fry daddy catches flame you don’t douse it with water. If you don’t understand what you’re fighting, then your experiments may exacerbate the problem and result in all manner of unintended consequences.

There is also the element of uncertainty caused by experimentation. Markets don’t like uncertainty. How much capital is sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what is going to happen before it jumps into the market? What will Obama do? Will he raise taxes? How much? On who? On me? Will there be more bail-outs? Who will get them? Will there be more stimuli? How will we pay for them?

This all sounds vaguely familiar.

FDR was a great fan of experimentation with the economy. He dragged this country through the great depression for more than a decade with his constant meddling. Maybe some fires should be left to burn themselves out so that something new can grow in their place.

I know I’m not smart enough to have all the answers. Neither, do I believe, are Obama and the Democrats.

I’ve recently heard more than one intelligent person complain about Detroit’s lack of innovation and preparation in “green” technology. They use that as tepid excuse for its downfall.

Much of the credit for the downfall of Detroit should go to the government and the unions who’ve taxed, regulated, pillaged and plundered the big three for years. The government stifles all business with its draconian tax system. The unions effectively run production out of America or at least to the southern states. How was Detroit supposed to be innovative and invest in research and development with these albatrosses around its neck? Was Detroit supposed to beg, borrow and steal while risking all of this capital on an unproven technology? And I laughed all the way to my 4X4 American made truck after I read this article: Hummer vs. Prius claiming that a hummer was more environmentally friendly than a prius.

Not that anybody cares. I'll give president elect Obama a bit of honeymoon and lay off for a while. I know he'll appreciate it.

In the end he was destined to win. He indeed had a righteous wind at his back. McCain never really had a chance, nor did his campaign ever really have any momentum.

It's disappointing, but I have hope. Two future life long Republicans were born during this election cycle. Both of my daughters will be of voting age next time around.

Let me explain why I think this is so important and why I harp on this with my liberal colleagues. These people are essentially rewriting history. In 100 years our ancestors will look back at history and they will have the word of liberal journalists to rely on. That’s how some of the biggest lies in history have been propagated. For instance, there is the false assumption that the Tet Offensive was a failure. It wasn’t until I was studying ROTC that I knew otherwise.

My favorite example is of Joe McCarthy. The term “McCarthyism” is ubiquitous when people want to accuse someone of demonizing another. Books have been written about “the McCarthy years” and how he ruined innocent peoples’ lives, etc., etc. When looking at the references from these books you see a common theme. Almost every single source is print media from the time. M. Stanton Evans wrote a book recently called “Blacklisted by History”, which is about McCarthy. It took him nearly a decade of research through government files, congressional testimony and firsthand accounts but he studiously trudged on to completion. These sources tell a story that is the complete opposite from the one you are used to hearing. It shows that his original task was not even related to communism per se. Evans shows that practically everything we’ve been told about McCarthy is false; including the eternally repetitive misquoting of the famous 1950 speech at Wheeling, West Virginia, that launched the McCarthy era (“I have here in my hand . . .”). When Russian documents surfaced in the 90’s and essentially proved all of McCarthy’s allegations, no amount of retractions could have saved his reputation.

I’ve digressed but this is my point. If these things have been distorted as much as it seems and because of the media’s bias, it took years of hard research to uncover it, then what does the future hold for us? Imagine if the media had accurately reported the activities from this era. Would public outcry turned the government upside down and rid it of communists? Would our nuclear secrets have ever gotten out? Would there have been a cold war? Would Iran, Pakistan, China, Russia and North Korea have nuclear weapons? Think about what it means for a free country to have a trustworthy press.

I was at the game and I remember the play. It looked a little funny the way the QB, Stephen Garcia, went down but I didn't see the ref throw the shoulder. I was listening to the radio and the guys calling the game just kind of laughed that Garcia had run into the ref. This thing has taken on a life of it's own around here. Conspiracy theories abound. Somebody even brought up the fact that the ref is a former UK player and said that he was getting revenge for the Cocks beating the Wildcats last week. Sheese.

BTW, After leading at the half 17-10 the Gamecocks lost 24-17. Sigh.

This sounds to me like reason plenty to vote McCain.

Poor guy, all he did was ask the Dali-bama a question about his tax policy. Now the Toledo Blade (Blade?) is raising the qusetions about his character, and the possibility that Joe is, in fact, not a plumber.

Take it from this other guy named Joe who is reported to be running as Obama's vice president...

With the Democrat party having veered so far to the left, the thought of a Democrat President along with a (filibuster proof!) If Obama is elected and congress increases it's majorities in the House and Senate, big changes could be coming to the 401k system.

“With respect to the 401(k), it appears to be a plan that is not really well-devised for the changes in the market,” Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., said.

“We’ve invested $80 billion into subsidizing this activity,” he said, referring to tax breaks allowed for 401(k) contributions and savings.

Invested? How is my contribution to my 401k plan a government investment? These are my investments that are subsidised by my employer, not congress, and are tax deferred, not tax free. Taxes will be paid when the funds in the plan are withdrawn.

Congress should let workers trade their 401(k) assets for guaranteed retirement accounts made up of government bonds, suggested Teresa Ghilarducci, an economics professor at The New School for Social Research in New York.

When workers collected Social Security, the guaranteed retirement account would pay an inflation-adjusted annuity under her plan.

“The way the government now encourages 401(k) plans is to spend $80 billion in tax breaks,” which goes to the highest-income earners, Ms. Ghilarducci said.

Highest-income earners? This is class warfare. These high income earners are the very people who are approaching retirement and need to be saving more of their income in preparation for retirement.

I guess I'm just going to have to work until I die.

Democrats opposed this legislation and ultimately killed it...

In 2005 Alan Greenspan told Congress how urgent it was for it to act in the clearest possible terms: If Fannie and Freddie "continue to grow, continue to have the low capital that they have, continue to engage in the dynamic hedging of their portfolios, which they need to do for interest rate risk aversion, they potentially create ever-growing potential systemic risk down the road," he said. "We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk."

The Senate Banking Committee then passed as serious reform bill that was opposed by Democrats along party lines. The republicans were unable to even get the full Senate to vote on the bill.

Bush has been a disappointment as president in many ways, but Krugman is wrong to try and hang this one on him. The Democrats have much more culpability in my view. They are the ones who have run things in Congress for the last "year and a half".
